Course Overview

This experiential course is designed to help people of all skill levels learn to draw. In 36 lessons, artistic skills are carefully developed in a way that encourages confidence and success even for those who believe they lack artistic ability. The course begins with simple line drawing exercises and progresses through still life drawings, landscapes, and self-portraits. Students learn the basics of perspective, shading, proportion, color, and compositional balance.

Additional Materials Required

The following books are needed to complete the Integrated Drawing coursework:

Please note: there is no teacher edition available for this course. 

The following art supplies are also needed for this course (not included in the course package):

  • Pad of inexpensive drawing paper (or bond typing paper)
  • #4B graphite drawing pencil (or #2 writing pencil)
  • Eraser
  • 8 x 10 inch clear plastic (or glass with taped edges), 1/16 inch thick
  • Permanent marker
  • 8 x 10 inch black cardboard
  • Nonpermanent black felt-tip marker
  • Two “alligator” clips
  • Masking tape
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Set of colored pencils (Prismacolor or Caran D’ache are good choices)
  • Colored construction paper, 9 x 12 inches or larger
  • Set of 12 (or more) pastel chalks (also called pastel crayons; Lyra is a good choice)
  • Small mirror (for self-portraits)
