Oak Meadow’s web-based online courses for grades 5-8 combine the dynamic interactivity of the web, online and offline assignments, and regular tests to enable students to learn each subject easily and enjoyably. Courses include a complete explanation of the subject, full-color photos and graphics, plus numerous links to web sites that expand upon the subject. In addition, each course includes a complete teacher’s manual (available only to the parent or teacher) that contains all the answers to the assignments and additional information about the topics in each lesson. Each course includes a full school year of instruction (36 lessons) and access is granted for 12 months. English: In addition to building core skill areas, this course covers many different literary genres as well as a variety of compositional forms, including narratives, critiques, short stories, poetry, and persuasive essays.
Math: Features decimal numbers, money, fractional parts, linear measure, area, perimeter, volume, solids, percents, ratios, probabilities, and angle measurement.
Earth Science: Students explore the planet, its makeup, and its environment, with an emphasis upon an experiential approach that provides opportunities for them to become involved in the scientific process.
World History: Students study American history in the context of world history, from the Age of Enlightenment to the present, emphasizing the patterns of history, the people who made history, and children’s historical literature.
